I’m Excited

I’m excited to announce that my new album, produced with Kalehoff Productions, will be entitled  “JUST BEING MYSELF”  and will be released late Spring 2012!  It’s been an incredible, fun, challenging, intense couple years producing this new collection of songs, and I can’t wait to share the records with you.  Meanwhile, you can catch some live performances of some of the songs on YouTube.com/CassandraKubinski There are some clips there from the “Funny for An Hour Strangers” comedy/music show at The Bitter End, some covers of Bruno Mars and Adele, as well as, of course, the official videos for Windblown Girl and Just Being Myself.

Speaking of vides, a brand new video is in the works for “Just Being Myself”, as well as a couple dance remixes.  We’ll release all this in conjunction with the album.  Stay tuned here and on Facebook.com/CassKubinski and Twitter.com/CassandraKubi for updates about the release, release shows and parties, listening parties, and single releases!

Thomas Wilson took some fantastic photos for the cover shoot, which you can see at Facebook.com/casskubinski

And, why stop at just an album?  This Spring, we’re also in the studio working on a few singles- a cover of “Bad Romance”, as I promise you have never heard it before (unless you come to our live shows, ha), “Literally” and “On the Sidewalk”.

In other news, my collaborators at TRIFECTA just produced an awesome song for new artist Gina Kim.  “Dance With It” is coming soon and is sure to make you move.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon…

SORRY POSTPONED !!! Nov 14 at Bitter End, Comedy and Music 8 pm, and Save Caffe Vivaldi! POSTPONED SORRY !!!

Hi everyone-
Woohoo, welcome to Holiday Season! I’ve brought my leather jacket out of hibernation, saw a bunch of adorable kids running around dressed like monsters and princesses yesterday, and know it’s probably a matter of days until peppermint mochas are back at Starbucks (or maybe they’re already there…) I hope that you’re already finding joy and warmth in the little nuances of the season that mean the most to you. Popping in today with an invitation, and some new tidbits for you to check out!

Funny for An Hour Strangers
The “Funny for An Hour Strangers” (ahem, Power Rangers. . . see poster below) entertain and serenade you with an hour of (actually funny) comedy and comedic songs, about waxing, texting, and other -ings. Starring Ben Milam, Brooke Ferris, Chris Redding, Justin Matson, and Cassandra Kubinski, and special guest Jordan Elizabeth

RESPOND TO FACEBOOK INVITATION HERE

Also- I will be playing a house concert in Ardsley, similar to the one we did last year, on Saturday, December 17- if you would like to attend (plan early!), respond here and I will send you a personal link for tickets!

2. Sign the Petition to Save Caffe Vivaldi The incredible, warm, cozy, charming restaurant/cafe CAFFE VIVALDI on Jones St is currently working hard to stay afloat in the face of new management and an unrealistically, exponentially raised rent. The truth is, there is a possibility they’ll have to close if they cannot get a fairer rent deal. Those of you who have been on this list since it started 7 years ago (!) have probably seen me perform there, alone, on the bill with other artists like NLX, Annie Fitzgerald, and James Adamo, or hosting ORIGINS and featuring terrific writers like David Ippolito, Randy Stern, Rachel Zamstein, and more. It is one of the last remaining “listening rooms” in the city- small, intimate, and offering artists long sets (75 minutes, usually) in a perfect setting to do acoustic, lyric-oriented shows, or try out new material. Plus they have a real, tuned Yamaha piano and fantastic coffee, wine, and dessert, which is definitely a step up from the usual “bar” offerings in the Bleecker area! Anyhow, if you love live music, please, please add your name to the petition: Save Vivaldi Thank you so much!

3. The CK YOUTUBE has evolved yet again, now offering direct links to buy the song you’re listening to! There’s all sorts of stuff up there, from in-studio performances at the old JSM studios, to LifeBEAT charity performances at the Bitter End, to live performances of some of the songs from the upcoming album, including “Shutout” and “Captivity.” Check it out!

4. Finally, the amazing folks at CDBaby.com released an app that makes it possible to buy artists’ albums (both CDs and downloads!) directly from Facebook. So, all 3 of my albums (the breakout EP “hiding underneath”, full-length studio album “Hold the Sun”, and live double album “Live at Camp Nashville”) are all available on Facebook now! (click here) Add to your own collection, or pick up a few discs as holiday gifts (discs are discounted if you buy more than one). I am so grateful for your support, and for the ability to have the music out worldwide in this way!

SEE YOU NOVEMBER 14, I love you all!

JUST BEING MYSELF

WINDBLOWN GIRL

Cassandra Kubinski Windblown Girl Video Stills, Photo by Brent Ramsey
Hi everyone! I’m watching the international world go by (and the pigeons) on Bleecker and 6th Ave, writing this on a perfectly gorgeous, sunny, low-humidity day, and I can’t believe we’re already into August. So much has been going on in the last few months, and I’m excited that we’re finally ready to share it with you.

First and foremost, THE VIDEOS ARE HERE! Creating them has been an awesome process, involving incredibly dedicated and talented individuals, since shooting in April and editing since then. “Just Being Myself” and “Windblown Girl” are the first videos from this album project, and I’m pleased to announce their debut here on the website. Check them out, let us know what you think, share with friends, post, blog, tweet to the world. More on the videos and the “making of” later…

Second, I’m honored to be part of the team putting together a yogathon and concert called HARMONY FOR HUNGER on Tuesday, August 23. The event will raise a minimum of $1,000 and 100 lbs of food for City Harvest, which helps feed the 1.2 million hungry New Yorkers who will visit food shelters this year alone. HARMONY FOR HUNGER culminates in a concert at The Bitter End from 7-9 pm, and I am personally inviting you to come join us to support this incredible organization and help feed our hungry neighbors.

HARMONY FOR HUNGER (concert)

Tuesday, August 23

7-9 pm

The Bitter End (147 Bleecker St)

$15 suggested donation, and please bring non-perishable food items (you know you have cans of soup and boxes of mac and cheese that have been in your pantry over a year!)

Featuring: Kylie Edmond, Cassandra Kubinski, and others TBA

BONUS! August 21 is my birthday, and I would consider it the best gift if you would simply show up to support this cause!

HARMONY FOR HUNGER yoga events include classes all day at Sonic Yoga, The Giving Tree Yoga, Sankalpah Yoga, and September workshop events with Will Duprey Yoga. Please consider taking a yoga class at one of those studios on August 23- or bringing non-perishable food items to the studios anytime during the month of August.

Third, the new album is basically done, barring a few more tweaks and special guests, and we’re already talking to some great folks about partnering on the release. I’m finally settling into the realization that these 13 tracks we created are now available in public…it’s a switch to get out of the mindset of “we’re working on it” to “here it is, check it out!” I’m so proud of this collection of songs and ready to see them spread throughout movies, TV, radio, and on iPods across the world. You’ll hear personal songs, storytellings songs, dance songs, romantic songs, sassy songs, songs about love, partying, regret, sex, traveling, texting, and more love. The album was made with so much love, and I just want it to entertain, inspire, and move people the way great songwriters and great productions have moved me as an artist and a human being. Each song is a mini-movie, and takes you on a journey- to the jungle, to Paris, to the islands, to airy, golden fields…and back again to New York City. Edd Kalehoff’s production made these songs come alive, and every musician (including the incomparable Brian McGee engineering) brought their A-game in terms of talent, smart, innovative ideas, and, of course, ridiculously awesome performances. You can hear the mixes of the 13 songs on the Music page of this site, and also some on my Facebook Artist page (click “like” to become a part of that community!). I love getting notes and emails about the songs- so keep them coming! And, please do come out to the Bitter End on August 23 to hear a bunch of them live onstage.

I’ll stop now, but I do promise to blog more often and share some of the experiences we’ve had, sonically shaping the world the songs live in, inventing a visual world in the videos, making magic between NYC and Miami. I have the blessed privilege of having a job that is silly amounts of fun, even when it’s an enormous amount of preparation, effort, and commitment- you know, work ☺ Enjoy the music and videos, and see you at the show August 23!

Greetings from Florida

Cassandra Kubinski on Southern Florida Beach in Winter.

Winter greetings from Southern Florida!!!

Greetings from Miami Beach :-)

Welcome to my new website!

It’s been a long time coming.  This’ll be the spot for the latest music, videos, news, live show postings, and more.  Bookmark it, share it, check it out often, and definitely let us know what you think!  There’s no place like “home” and I’m psyched to have an eponymous home on the web once again.

2011 has started out fast and furious, and there’s so much going on…pant, pant, pant… I’ve been posting some things on Facebook (Make sure you Like http://www.facebook.com/wendyparrmusic#!/pages/Cassandra-Kubinski/405380407570 <http://www.facebook.com/wendyparrmusic#%21/pages/Cassandra-Kubinski/405380407570> for the latest) and www.Myspace.com/CassandraKubinski <http://www.myspace.com/CassandraKubinski> , but here’s the full scoop.

I’m in the studio with Edd Kalehoff and Kalehoff Productions continuing to work on songs for a brand new album.  This process has been an amazing one since we started recording together last year, and I’ve never felt better or more excited about the songs I’m writing, the collaboration in getting incredible musicians and sounds in the records, and the opportunities I’ve had to learn even more about old vs. new-school recording processes and techniques.  I’ve always felt like an analog baby living in a digital world, in so many ways, and my writing and propensity for hard-hitting production and contemporary storytelling, mixed with Edd’s background in through-composing themes, orchestrations, and production (they were some of the first guys in NYC to even use ProTools!) is leading to a dramatic, sensual, almost cinematic mix of  stories, live band, loops and beats, strings, organs, and atmosphere…I love it.  Check it out on the LISTEN page here, where our first 5 songs are posted.

We’re now between the NYC and FL studios, getting musicians and beat makers in on the tracks, adding bells and whistles, and watching Brian consume yet another cup of coffee.  In fact, I just met more NYC music people in my office away from home (aka the Starbucks) on Miami Beach.

There’s also some cool stuff happening in video-land!  In association with ROAM Pictures, my great friend Maria Rusolo’s film company, we shot a music video for Textual Healing, my SNL-style parody of Sexual Healing, last week in NYC.  I can’t wait to share the final cut- we’re in the studio sweetening the music part this week!  It was an awesome couple days in multiple locations, including the Gibson showroom space I love so much.  So many costumes, my incredible friends who came thru as last-minute office workers, diners, and backup singers, and as much fun as you can have as a low (no?) budget film crew slogging thru NYC in the worst Winter on record.  They are awesome.  Stay tuned for the video premiere here!

What else… writing with some producers on pop tracks, singing demos and jingles for other writers, singing back up in the Joe Frazier band (yes, the boxer sings…and we’ll be out and about touring this year), and writing custom songs for weddings and anniversaries. That has been pretty incredible- getting to be part of people’s most important life moments as the soundtrack!  It’s a huge honor and an awesome challenge to write a song that will reflect what the person or couple really wants to say to each other, in a musical way that matches how they feel.

So, Dan and I are thinking Mexican food for lunch before we hit the beach, and then maybe some Stereo Love in the club on this gorgeous Valentine’s Day.  Sending you love and sunshine- oooh, for a super romantic audio cocktail on your sexy romantic day, visit www.ckubinski.com <http://www.ckubinski.com/>  and listen to “First Kiss”!

Love and dark chocolate,
Cassandra
